Looker is one of many tools that our clients use for data visualization and Business Intelligence. Other names include Tableau, Power BI, Business Objects to name three. As Engineers we like Looker because as far as we know it is the only BI tool that incorporates git source code control for its LookML (think code or metadata). Additionally it is a very productive and consistent tool to work in, with support for many source databases, as well as libraries of existing code bases called “Looker Blocks” which can provide for a lot of out of the box functionality.
While Looker is the face of the Data Analytics stack it is only as good as the data underneath it and the database in which it is stored.
